nixon-barneys-nyc-holiday09-collection-4Watch company NIXON has once again partnered up with Barney’s to create a limited set of timepieces for the retailer as its “Holiday Watch Collection.”  I died slightly when my eyes fell upon this watch, which I am going to have a very hard time resisting if it is on the lower end of the line’s $165 to $1995 price range.  With its tortoise shell dial, simple brushed (metal?) band and gold accents, it’s absolutely stunning–not to mention the epitome of my style.  I am less enthused by the rest of the watches in the collection which have a vintage militaristic feel.  Oh, watch of the tortoise shell dial, I have eyes only for you.

The sad thing is that I know that there will be one of two outcomes: either the watch is the most expensive in the line (probable), or it’s on the less expensive side and the watch feels insubstantial and cheap.  [Via]

Temptation Du Jour

Screen shot 2009-09-21 at 8.33.31 PMWith my trip to LA next week on the mind (that may extend to another, undisclosed tropical location), I have been thinking a lot about luggage.  I have a rolling suitcase and a variety of day bags, but I think what I’ve really been lacking is a medium sized duffle bag.

I’m not talking about the ones that teens use when packing up to go away to sleep-away camp for a summer, but rather the smart and durable kind that fit perfectly in an overhead compartment and can hold enough for a long weekend.

Even though I constantly lust for a rich leather version from Salvatore Ferragamo or a Damier Canvas bag from Louis Vuitton, the former is impractical unless you’re traveling by private jet and the latter is simply too expensive to justify right now.

As such, I am really very tempted by this perfectly-sized sturdy bag from Italian luggage maker Bric’s.  I found it while perusing Barney’s online and find it very reasonably priced at $230.  It’s a bag that won’t go out of style and will likely be in better shape than me in 20 years.

Available at Barney’s.

picture-21At first it looked like a content management error: someone in a dark, secret web programming room had accidentally put a skirt in the men’s designer section.  A closer look, however, revealed this was no accidental discrepancy.  Barney’s is carrying Thom Browne’s man skirt, or “skort” as they call it.  So now you know where to head if you want to rock Marc Jacob’s newest fashion addiction–for a recession busting $1,725!  Well this certainly makes it easier to understand why Mr. Browne is in some financial trouble.  Click below for the runway look. 0401hilowIt’s said that when the economy’s bad, women gravitate towards lipstick purchases for a little retail therapy “pick me up.”  For men, the closet equivalent in price and utility might be the humble sock.  Just as women can experiment with a rainbow spectrum of rouge à levres, men can branch out from the basic navy or black to add a bit of subtle irreverence to an otherwise staid outfit.  With a plethora of fun colors and patterns, “Happy Socks” makes infusing a bit of joviality and color into your wardrobe cheap (at $10 a pair) while also still imparting that distinctly Western pleasure of acquiring material things.

Available at Barney’s, Opening Ceremony and Happy Socks.

p1Despite The Virgins frontman Donald Cumming possessing a notoriously terrible style, Barney’s chose the nouveau-rock band to model its Spring looks in the latest catalogue.

There’s not much to remark besides that the boys clean up pretty well.  It also looks like Barney’s will have a good section of rather avant-garde fashion including items from Ann Demeulmeester, Number (N)ine (Get it now before it’s gone!), Rick Owns and others.  Visit Barney’s for the virtual mail catalogue.
