Mile High Club

businessclass4As a child, after a short-lived bout during which time I thought I wanted to be an actor (I even auditioned for the movie Step Mom to be that child), I thought that I wanted to be an “international lawyer.”  I had no idea what this meant, but it sounded like a snazzy title where one would make a lot of money and travel all over the world, staying in the best hotels, drinking dry martinis in first class airport lounges, unpacking Louis Vuitton damier canvas suitcases in Tokyo, and having important lunch meetings over kobe beef steaks.

Of course, things turned out a bit differently when I turned down Johns Hopkins for NYU and then life took another unexpected turn when I fell hard for fashion and writing (two things I had never really given much thought to previously).  Gone are the days when I can do simple arithmetic, let alone read a subpoena without going into a boredom-induced coma.  But that’s hardly the point of this post.  This photo editorial from a 2005 edition of L’Uomo Vogue exemplifies exactly what I had in mind when I pictured my future.  I’m still hoping that this is what’s in store.

businessclass8I love every moment of travel–well, except for the removing your shoes thing–I love airports, I love the feeling of transit.  There’s possibility, romanticism, adventure.  I just booked a flight out to LA for next week where I’ll be for a few days and before partaking in a road trip halfway across the country.  I’ve never done a road trip before, let alone travelled in desolate rural areas, and I can’t wait for the experience.  Just, please God, no Bates Motel business.
