As I liveblogged while in attendance, on Thursday night I was a guest for the 13th Annual Hearts of Gold Gala hosted by Tamara Tunie and Soledad O’Brien. I wrote about the ties designed specifically for the occasion on VIBE.com and I urge everyone who is able to make a donation to the amazing cause which helps New York’s homeless mothers and children.
I was so moved by the story of one mother who at twenty years old was pregnant with her third child and was at a dead end. Hearts of Gold stepped in to help her, giving her a place to live, buying her furniture–twice after her ex-boyfriend found out where she was living and destroyed the first set, and clothing her children.

She labors tirelessly to better the lives of these mothers and children–not only fundraising and organizing these events, but working in the trenches, delivering diapers and winter coats when needed.
On a lighter note, seated next to me for dinner was actress Margaret Colin who plays Blair Waldorlf’s mother on Gossip Girl. It was uncanny how much like her character she was.
I wore the Allison Parris mink shawl and received more compliments on my outfit than ever before for any other piece of clothing I’ve previously worn.
