FIRST LOOK: Wii Yoga

AdrienYogaThis afternoon I was invited to the media preview of the Wii Yoga.  As a yoga fan who doesn’t practice as much as I’d like to, I was excited to check out the system, which promises to allow the user to unwind and balance their chakras (okay I made that one up) in the privacy of their own home.  The presentation was held in the penthouse of a building on West Street with sweeping city views that became increasingly beautiful as the last rays of sunlight disappeared over the Hudson.

There was a demonstration set up featuring the Wii Yoga system and as everyone else was rather shy, I decided to volunteer myself for the experience.  The Wii integrates the body board into the yoga exercise so that when you set the system to certain poses, it can read the pressure balance of your extremities.  When I did the tree pose (above–and initially done shoeless) it read where I was exerting pressure to balance.  There is also a reader which shows a pair of expanding/contracting lungs to sync your breath to.

Another feature of the system is similar to a DVD workout where it shows an animated yogi doing a sequence that you just follow along to on your yoga mat (sans body board).  The beautiful face of the Wii Yoga system, supermodel Anja Rubik, was also there giving interviews and generally radiating.
