When I started writing for VIBE, one of my first assignments was to interview Kid Cudi for a collaboration T-shirt he had created with A Bathing Ape. Up until this point, I had never once heard any utterance of the name Kid Cudi. I was talking to a friend the day before the call I had with Kid and was saying, “Have you ever heard of this guy, Kid ‘Que-dee’? I’m supposed to interview him tomorrow. She looked back at me, slightly aghast and said, “Do you mean Kid CUD-DEE?” Of course I had butchered the name.
Even though the interview ended up not having because of scheduling conflicts (it was in the middle of Fashion Week), I started listening to a few Kid Cudi songs and guess what–I really like him! This one is my favorite. I think I have more VIBE in me than I knew.
