Lady Gaga is the best possible example (maybe after Madonna) that image is everything in celebrity.  She might not be the most talented or beautiful singer out there, but she damn well knows how to get your attention–even when that means wearing a metal cut-out body suit.  Her latest video “Paparazzi” is as much a cinematic experience as to be on par with “Thriller.”  This isn’t your regular cut-and-dry three-minute campy video.  Watch and learn the power of fashion.

Picture 1On the subject of travel, the Louis Vuitton Eole 60 bag in durable Damier Géant is a highly-functional staple for anyone with an aversion to checking luggage.  Large enough for a weekend getaway, the bag is the perfect size to stow away in an overhead compartment but isn’t unwieldy.

With an extendable handle and wheeled side, it can either be carried by its calfskin handle straps or wheeled for brisk airport navigation.

$2,370 at Louis Vuitton.

Whoever said you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure clearly didn’t have a luxury travel expense account that allowed him to stay at the sort of places Wallpaper Magazine compiled for the “Best Business Hotels 2009” list.  A smorgasbord of opulent havens around the world where jet-setting types in suits go to rest after a long day of meetings and expensed dinners, the list was selected by a group of ten lifestyle and travel experts and split into continents.  Personal favorite: The Four Seasons Bosporus in Istanbul.

mj1.jpgFinally a lines of shoes just for him!  Marc Jacob’s Fall 2009 footwear collection pushes the limits of taste–oh who are we kidding?  These shoes are just plain ugly.   The nouveau-punk look has been making a comeback with all the black leather and stark silhouettes on the runway in Milan and the platform shoe is its ultimate manifestation.

Jacobs himself has been a fan of the platform boot for some time, bolding (blindly?) pairing them with his man skirts.  It’s not a look we reccomend.

Picture 1The day of the messenger bag is over and its wake are the soft briefcase and tote bag: the only two stylish yet functional options for daily transporation of life’s impedimenta.

This briefcase from Yves Saint Laurent is perfect for carrying a laptop, papers or whatever else you lug around on a daily basis.  It’s chic and timeless so you don’t have to worry about it being “last season’s bag.”

titanshave.jpgFor the travelling fellow who knows that every inch of a carryon bag is valuable real estate, this James Bond-worthy razor is a welcome innovation and just pretty cool grooming addition to any dopp kit.  Featuring a six-blade disposable head and a shaving-cream dispensing handle, it’s surprisingly inexpensive at $10 (available at Target).

Picture 1Even with the first day of summer just around the corner, there’s always a need for a lightweight cardigan.  Perfect for layering and throwing over your shoulders while sitting contemplatively on a beach somewhere with a glass of chilled pinot blanc as the waves hit in their rhythmic way.  Okay wait, back to this post.

This cardigan from Roberto Collina is ribbed for your pleasure and has contrast detailing along front and sleeves.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ci6E-eVBVs&feature=player_embedded]We’ve already been introduced to the $9,500 Fendi retro bicycle that features fur saddlebags and a leather GPS navigation holder, but now behold the next level of tacky cross-over designs/publicity stunts by a fashion house: the Chanel Fiole concept car.  It’s a safe bet that the interior features quilted leather seats and an engine that runs on Karl Lagerfeld’s ego emissions.

duntravelerDunhill’s name is synonymous with quality and for its newest travel line, the brand collaborated with luxury travel expert, Andrew Harper, to create a line of bags that exemplify both’s dedication to the pursuit of aesthetic perfection.  Harper contributed insight from his vast travel experience to help create the capsule collection, combining classic sophistication with functionality to produce three distinct and essential products for the modern traveller.

The holdall is particularly envy-inducing: besides the chic simplicity of the tan leather exterior, the bag features a zip-off bottom to hold two pairs of shoes and the body is large enough for a long weekend getaway.  As Memorial day just ended though, you’ll have to wait until your next vacation to really find that one out.

0521dior.2Marion Cotillard as a femme fatale, men in Dior Homme tailored suits set in a backdrop of a slightly sinister yet seductive Paris? It’s has all makings of a hit cult classic yet this story is peddling bags, not Blockbusters.  We see our glamorous heroine in towering platform heels as she dramatically unpacks her black quilted Lady Dior bag (the real star of this show), which plays a vital yet mysterious role in the whole affair.

The film is set to be released in a series of chapters over a span of two years in which, according to The Moment, “Cotillard will play a different character in a different city with each episode, the second of which is titled ‘Lady Rouge.’”  Watch the cinematically intriguing and beautifully shot first chapitre here.
