Louboutin Lust

The Cat Eye

Cat eye sunglasses are one of the most dominant trends this season in eyewear.  I was in lust with the Alexander Wang frames from the Spring 2010 collection.  Rather than drop $300 on them (I am trying to be reasonable, after all) I picked up this almost identical pair at Ricky’s [Note: they aren't available online] for $10 the other day.  I can’t count how many compliments I got on them this weekend in Miami where they were affixed to my face the entirety of the trip.

Yes, they are too tight on my face, the plastic feels cheap and they’ll probably break in a few weeks, but for $10?!  They will surely outlast my love for them.

PS.  Yes!  That’s my new Balmain speedo, which enjoyed its 20 minutes in the Miami sun.

I stopped by the Subversive Jewelry showroom to pull today for a shoot I’m working on this weekend.  I love the complex layering and antique yet edgy feel of each piece.

I don’t have an iPad, nor do I particularly want one (the new iPhone, however, is a different story) but I am loving all the creative cases that designers are doing.  For the longest time, I felt like fashion did not embrace technology.  There was always a proliferation of tacky velcro belt clips for your cell phone à la Michael Lohan, but until recently it was easier to find a crocodile skin journal than a stylish case for your battery-powered accessories.

The Dunhill iPad case may be my favorite so far.  I love that it has a sleek portfolio appearance imbued with the innate stylishness of paper correspondence.

You know I’ve got a birthday coming up and I think these Christian Louboutin “Fred Leather Laceup Flats” would make a pretty flashy statement.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of shoes that have rendered me speechless quite like these.  Custom-made for the London Opera by Rupert Sanderson, they make those 12 inch armadillo McQueens look like Payless to this Pavarotti masterpiece (okay, that’s a stretch, but you understand, right?).

No surprise that I would absolutely wear these myself.

I contemplated buying this tote for $65 at King of Greene Street. Sadly, my other bag is not an Hermès and I shouldn’t go around pulling the canvas over people’s eyes now, should I?

Thinking that I have to have these SUPER (literally) sunglasses.  I am a sunglass lover and I tend to wear mine whenever I leave the apartment, regardless of the weather–though I am not one of those people who wears them inside at parties.  I think that’s tacky.  On the other hand, if I had these, I could easily be tempted.  The gold siding gives them such a rock star statement.  You could wear the simplest outfit: black skinny jeans, a white tank top and throw these on and you’ve got an ensemble.

Incroyable.  These just underscore what a loss it is that Alexander McQueen is gone.   As we know, it takes a very special woman to wear McQueen heels.  So, my question is, who will be the first to wear these: Daphne Guinness, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, or Rihanna?  And if I was to pair each diva with the shoe, from top left clockwise I’d say: Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Daphne Guinness, Nicki Minaj.

I need a new bag right now like an alcoholic needs a new liver.  I am a toter: I carry a bunch of things around with me on a daily basis that I usually do not need but that give me a calming sense of reassurance to know they’re there.  I think I carry at least two Moleskin notebooks at any one time, an agenda book I don’t use, three wallets, my cosmetics, two pairs of sunglasses, and headphones in addition to the regular things.  Yes, it’s a neurosis, but I don’t feel like changing.

I haven’t bought a new bag in a shamefully long amount of time (certainly not for lack of desire) but think that I may soon be able to invest in a new one.  I was looking at hypothetical options and there are no shortage of bags that would fit the bill (while costing very, very many of them).  Basically, I love anything in leather that has a slouchy feel with top handles, gold hardware and that can double as airport bag.

My favorite is the YSL bag above ($2,157 at LuisaviaRoma) but there are some close contenders. Read the rest of this entry »
